Solar Tracking Systems: The Case For and Against

Trackers can meaningfully boost production — but they're rare in residential installations for real reasons worth understanding.

What a tracker actually does

A solar tracker physically moves panels throughout the day to follow the sun's position, capturing more direct sunlight than a fixed-tilt array — single-axis trackers adjust east-to-west through the day; dual-axis trackers also adjust for seasonal sun angle changes.
